1. One day Tufa Gorge day walk.
Hoogenoeg is a stunning gorge
situated in the Strydpoort Mountains, a south lying wing of the
Transvaal Drakensberg, 95 kilometers south of Polokwane.
Walking distance for the day: Approximately 7 kilometers, not
more.
Since this is a mild adventure experience reasonable walking
fitness is essential, participant must be prepared to “go off
the beaten track” occasionally, and expect to get a bit dirty.
2.One day tour of Magoebaskloof area and Organic Cheese farm with
picnic lunch
Magoebaskloof, an extension of the huge Transvaal Drakensberg
mountains, situated 70km east of Polokwane is an alpine land of mists,
endless valleys, streams and temperate rain forests, including ‘Grootbos”,
the largest single temperate forest in southern Africa. This is in
total contrast to the savanna of Polokwane and the “bushveld” of
the Kruger Park and surrounds, besides the huge bio diversity, Magoebaskloof
is also steeped in both ancient and recent history.
3. One day Olifants River Game and Nature raft cruise, Amarula
f
actory tour and visit to the "Africania" pottery.
The Olifants River, starting its fascinating journey near Johannesburg,
eventually flows through the Kruger National Park, flowing through
the renowned “Valley of the Olifants” en route. It is in this rich
bio diverse area, fringing Kruger Park where it broadens out to
create
a perfect setting for a lazy big game laden raft cruise.
4.One day SAN Art/History tour of Makgabeng,
North West of Polokwane
Makgabeng, 130km north-west of Polokwane is situated close to the
foothills of the majestic 2050 meter high Blouberg (“blue”) mountain.
Both are of similar geology to the Soutpansberg, South Africa’s most
northern mountain range. Makgabeng is characterized by strange shaped
hills, a single impressive pinnacle, and valleys housing many rock
shelters which served as dwelling places for the San (Bushmen) hunter
gatherers. Besides these people, there is also evidence of other
mysterious African hunter gathers, and Khoi nomadic herdsmen who
all lived in relative harmony with each other. Later the Bahananwa
arrived, a Northern Sotho tribe of Botswana origin moved into the
Blouberg and the surrounds, and also left their artistic legacy in
some of the rock shelters depicting the 1894 siege on Blouberg by
Boer troops under the leadership of General Piet Joubert. Makgabeng
has one of the highest single concentrations of San (Bushmen) art
and artifacts in South Africa.
