Thomac CC has a reputation for very high quality 100% pure
wild crafted essential oils. Mark McMahon of Thomac was sourced
by a renowned NGO Group to distill Frankincense oleo-resins.
He was sponsored to fly to Somaliland to meet the harvesters
and merchants. Somaliland is a humble country and one of
its few sources of income is Frankincense. This is a development
and upliftment program. Please
click here to read full article of Marks trip to Somaliland
in the Dec/Jan 2006 issue of Odyssey magazine.
Thomac has a partner in Teubes, which is one of the largest
oil brokers in the world. They sourced Thomac CC as a partner
due to the news of excellent oils of which three are unique.
One of the oils, Southern Immortelle, has cured over 100
cases of sinusitis.
The distillation project was started because the owners of
Thomac wanted to conserve the natural grassland and mountain
forest on their farm in Magoebaskloof. The decision was not
to plant timber and respect Mother Nature.
The Distillation Plant
The distillation plant consists of two separate distillation
units which are made entirely of 316 grade stainless steel.
The larger of the two units, which runs on the dry-steam
method, is capable of handling 500 kilograms of herbaceous
plant material per charge.
The second unit is capable of handling 100kg of oleo-gum
resins per charge. The distillation facility was designed
and built by Mark himself. Mark also does consulting work
regarding distillation plant design, construction and operation
The second unit runs on the hydro-distillation method and
is used to process oleo-gum resins. These resins which include
frankincense are imported from The Republic of Somaliland
on the horn of Africa.
All the plant materials used are wild crafted which makes
them, to all intents and purposes, organic. The steam is
provided by a vertical water tube boiler which is fired by
a mixture of alien vegetation hard-woods i.e. Bluegum (Eucalyptus)
and Wattle (Acacia). The water used in the process is a mixture
of water drawn from a natural forest spring and rainwater.
The only by-product of the process is a distilled water containing
top-notes of the oils commonly known as a hydrolate...and
a little wood smoke!
Tour:
See how these unique oils are distilled. Tour of distillation
facility, informative talk and opportunity to purchase unique
products. Duration of tour approximately 1 hour.

Wegraakbosch Dairy has a particularly appropriate ambience,
with rolling hedgerowed
meadows, pastures and a very organic vegetable garden. The
cheese making process on this farm reminds one of another
older age and a more mellow pace of life. They follow the
traditions of the Swiss cheese makers where real Swiss cheese
is made by men, not machines. Cheese is made in a copper
cauldron over an open fire and everything is done by hand,
even the cows are milked in the old-fashioned way!!
A cheese tour combined with a with a cheese tasting and a
glass of good wine under the vines is the the only way to end
a perfect day. Nipper and Sylvia practices a strict organic
way of life and visitors can feel and see how a real organic
farm is supposed to operate!.
Tours
Cheese making tours are
conducted by appointment.
1. Cheese making tour approximately1 hour
2. Organic farming tour 1 hour.
3. Walk through indigenous forest. 1 hour.
4. Cheese platters by appointment.
