Kiwi Fruit on the bushes
The marvellous Kiwi
It’s been said that the kiwi fruit tastes like succulent green sherbet. It’s a delicious addition in fruit salads, green salads, juices and of course an exotic decoration for cocktails.
- This fruit consists of a hairy, brown peel containing green flesh, with white pulp in the centre, surrounded by black, edible seeds
- The fruit has a sweet taste, similar to a mixture of banana, pineapple and strawberry
- Nutrition-wise, kiwi fruits contain about as much potassium as bananas, and also contain 1.5 times the DRI for Vitamin C
- It is also rich in Vitamins A and E, and its black seeds can be crushed to produce kiwi fruit oil, an important Omega-3 essential fatty acid
Kiwi Fruit serving ideas
- Kiwis can be eaten as is, scooped or cut in slices
- Kiwi fruits add a delicious "tropical" feel to salads
- Make a delicious combination out of yoghurt, strawberries and kiwis, add bananas/pineapples
- Chicken and fish can be served with "chutney", made with sliced kiwi fruit, pineapple and orange
- Try delicious chilled soup out of blended cantaloupe and kiwi fruit, add yoghurt for more consistency
- Mango kiwi salsa can be served with tortillas or on top of meat, veg or pasta
- Smoothies made with kiwi fruit, yogurt or ice cream and ice in the blender is great!
- Fruit tarts can be decorated with some kiwi fruit slices or small chunks added to icing
