Cheerio Trout Fishing & Holiday Resort is situated in the mountains, forests and streams of Magoebaskloof in the Cheerio Valley, home of the annual Spring Azalea and Cherry Blossom Festival. It is a comfortable three and a half hours drive from Johannesburg on the N1 National highway. Cheerio is an ideal stop over to the Kruger and other private game parks and is a comfortable hour and a half drive from the Phalaborwa gate and two hours from the Orpen gate.

Facilities

Fully equipped self-catering cottages, accommodating from 2 to 8 persons, and B&B rondavels are set in beautiful gardens. There are three trout dams on the property and river fishing can be arranged with the local angling association. All cottages/rondavels are fully equipped and are serviced daily. Fax, internet and laundry facilities are available on request.

The cottages and rondavels have different configurations to suit varying family requirements. These are:

• Grandpa's cottage

Grandpa’s cottage comprises a main bedroom with double bed, en-suite dressing room and bathroom with bath, a second bedroom with 2 single beds, a second bathroom with shower and basin, a separate toilet with basin, a fully equipped kitchenette, a lounge with fireplace, a dining area, a reading/relaxing room leading on to covered back veranda and private garden, a covered front patio and a large deck overlooking the swimming pool and braai facilities. The cottage has DSTV.

• Mountain View cottage

Mountain View cottage has a main bedroom with double bed with bathroom (bath) en suite, a mezzanine with 4 single beds, a second bathroom comprising shower, toilet and basin, a  fully equipped kitchen/dining area, a lounge with fireplace, a patio and braai facilities The cottage has DSTV.

• Beefwood cottage

Beefwood cottage has a main bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom en-suite (shower), a second bedroom with double bed, an adjacent bathroom with bath, basin, toilet and shower, a separate toilet with basin, a fully equipped kitchen/dining area, a lounge with 2 sleeper couches and fireplace, a covered veranda and patio with braai facilities The cottage has DSTV.

• Protea cottage

Protea cottage has a downstairs bedroom with a double bed, an upstairs (steep stairs) bedroom with 2 single beds leading onto a deck which leads into the garden, a bathroom with bath, toilet and basin, a second bathroom with shower, toilet and basin, a fully equipped kitchen/dining room, a large lounge with two sleeper couches and fireplace and a patio with braai. The cottage has DSTV.

• Forest cottage

Forest cottage has a bedroom with double bed, en-suite dressing room and bathroom with bath, a second bedroom with 2 single beds en-suite dressing room and bathroom with shower, a fully equipped kitchen/ dining area, a lounge with fireplace and 3 piece lounge suite, a large deck (portion covered) with doors from lounge and bedrooms, a private garden and braai facilities The cottage has DSTV.

• Rainbow cottage

Rainbow cottage has a bedroom with 2 single beds or can be converted to King size double bed, an adjacent bathroom with shower, toilet and basin, a fully equipped kitchenette/dining area, a lounge with fireplace, a large deck with entrances to both the lounge and bed room, a private garden and braai facilities. The cottage has DSTV.

• Waratah cottage

• Stone cottage

• B&B rondavels

There are two B&B rondavels., each with two single beds. One has a bathroom (shower) en-suite and the second has an outside bathroom 3 meters from the rondavel. There is a small kitchenette that serves these rondavels, should one want to prepare simple meals. Braai facilities are available in the gardens. The tariff includes a full English breakfast

Activities

Facilities/activities include a swimming pool, tennis court, put-put, birding, biking, hiking or just relaxing under a tree on a garden bench.
Other places of interest, which are easily accessible, are the Ebenezer, Magoebaskloof, Tzaneen and Dap Naude dams, the Debengeni falls and the Woodbush and Agatha National forests. A visit to the Modjadjikloof area, to the home of the Rain Queen, the cycad and tree fern forests and the Giant Baobab must not be missed. For golf enthusiasts, the Tzaneen and Polokwane Country Clubs are within an hours drive.

For the adventurous there are the Wolkberg mountains and national hiking trails and adventure activities such as the canopy tour, quad biking, kloofing, tubing, abseiling and paintball are available at our associate Thaba-Metsi Adventures, who are a pleasant 20 minutes drive from the resort.
