Our Story

Well - when we arrived in Magoebaskloof it was at the time they were closing the tea estates and literally thousands of families were going to be affected - those on the estate itself and those in secondary industries - packaging, maintenance and repair, conveyor belting, transport, education etc. UNEMPLOYMENT screamed at us and the helpless situation of our local people was a great worry.

Local people are willing to work and need opportunity and training - since the home economics skills are no longer taught in schools we started sewing projects and trained young local women to sew - This was hugely successful BUT they were all snapped up by Gauteng Companies for their skills and we do not have the reserves to continue to pay for training.

We have two ladies and one man who multi task on Applegrange and when we are not busy about domestic activities, we are baking, sewing or re-upholstering.

We specialize in:

  • Delicious home made pies and cakes and catering
  • Sewing - curtains, linen
  • Upholstery - do up your old furniture
  • Draping and event co-ordination.

Cushions:
Cushions come is all shapes and sizes - in tapestry fabric, mock suedes, brocades and upholstery materials. They retail for between R70 and R150 depending on size and finish.

Throws:
Our throws are mostly made of tapestry materials and are fringed - they are machine washable and the most popular size is the 150cm x 150cm which retails at R220-00, but we can make up to all sizes - we have made bedcovers and these look stunning.

Handbags, Shopping Bags and Carpet (Travelling) Bags:
All our bags are fully lined with pockets and compartments. They wash well and I have travelled across the world with my carpet bags - in the aircraft hold with no ill-effect on the bag. And the bonus - you can throw it into the washing machine when you get home and voila! ready for more travels.

Clothing:
We also make Madiba shirts, traditional skirts and tops for uniforms in lodges , band members and people travelling abroad. There is a lovely range of Shwe Shwe and African print fabrics for these items. Our customers look stunning and they make a super impression on travellers.

Simple recovering of upholstered couches and chairs - seats and bench covers.

Draping:
We create the most beautiful venues with draping and fairy lights at very competitive rates. The local village hall was transformed into a marquee for the J & B Met, the Dickie Dagge Hall at the Magoebaskloof Hotel has been transformed into a fairytale wedding venue with walls draped in white and the ceiling covered in organza with twinkling fairy lights. - A bride's dream.
